Police in Kole District have launched investigations into the deaths of two people following a suspected cattle theft incident in Akalo Town Council.

According to Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusoke Kituuma, the incident stems from the theft of two cows by unknown individuals several weeks ago.

In an effort to identify the suspects, residents reportedly sought the services of a traditional healer, identified as Mary Oming, 50, to help trace the alleged thieves.

“During the process, one Ivan Echom was given herbal medicine to consume. Shortly after taking the herbs, he died,” Kituuma said on Monday.

Following Echom’s death, enraged relatives allegedly turned on the healer, attacking her and causing fatal injuries.

Police officers later visited the scene, documented evidence, and transported both bodies for postmortem examinations. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the two deaths are ongoing.

Kituuma condemned acts of mob justice, warning that such actions often result in the loss of innocent lives.

“Our stand against mob action remains firm and unwavering. Mob justice only leads to the loss of lives, and those targeted may be innocent or guilty,” he said.

He also cautioned individuals who offer unverified remedies or methods of identifying suspects to carefully consider the potential consequences of their actions.
